What to Do After a Car Accident in Perth
Make the scene safe
Turn on hazards, move to a safe position if possible, and call emergency services if anyone is injured. Don't move vehicles if police need to assess the scene.
Exchange details
Get the other driver's name, licence number, registration, insurer and contact details. Take photos of the damage, positions and any relevant road markings.
Call your insurer
Notify your insurer of the accident. Ask for your claim number — you'll need it when the tow truck arrives.

We handle the rest
We transport your vehicle safely to your repairer or our secure yard. We liaise with your insurer so you can focus on getting home.
Insurers We Bill Directly
Comprehensive policyholders with any of these insurers pay nothing — we invoice directly.
Important: When Insurance Does Not Cover Towing
Comprehensive car insurance does not cover towing costs in the following circumstances, and the vehicle owner or driver will be personally liable for all towing, storage and associated fees:
- •Drink driving (DUI): If the driver was under the influence of alcohol at or above the legal blood alcohol limit at the time of the incident, most insurers will void cover entirely for that claim, including towing.
- •Drug driving: If the driver was impaired by illicit or prescribed drugs at the time of the incident, insurance cover is typically voided. This includes prescription medications that affect driving ability.
- •Unlicensed or disqualified drivers: If the driver was unlicensed, held a suspended licence, or was otherwise disqualified from driving at the time of the incident.
- •Use for excluded purposes: If the vehicle was being used for a purpose specifically excluded under the policy (e.g. business use on a personal-use-only policy, racing or competitive events).
- •Non-comprehensive policies: Third-party property, fire & theft, or CTP (compulsory third party) policies do not include towing cover. Only comprehensive policies provide this benefit.
Payment responsibility: Where insurance cover has been voided or does not apply, all towing, recovery and storage charges become the direct responsibility of the registered owner or driver. Tow Rite reserves the right to collect payment prior to release of the vehicle. If you are unsure whether your policy covers your situation, we recommend contacting your insurer before we dispatch. Our team can also advise you — call 0405 888 555.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who pays for accident towing in Perth?
If you hold comprehensive car insurance, your insurer covers the towing cost. Tow Rite bills major WA insurers directly — NRMA, AAMI, RAC, Allianz, Budget Direct and more — so you pay nothing out of pocket. If the accident was the other driver's fault, their insurer may also cover your tow.
Can I choose my own tow truck after an accident in Perth?
Yes. You are not required to use the tow truck your insurer dispatches. You have the legal right to choose any WA-licensed operator. Call Tow Rite directly and we will handle direct billing with your insurer.
What happens to my car after it's towed from an accident?
Your vehicle is transported to either your chosen repairer or a secure holding yard until your insurer assesses it. Tow Rite has a secure yard at our Malaga depot. We coordinate directly with your insurer and repairer so you don't need to manage the logistics.
How quickly can you respond to an accident in Perth?
Tow Rite operates 24/7 across Perth metro. Response times vary by location and time of day, but we typically arrive within 20–40 minutes. For freeway incidents, we prioritise fast dispatch due to road safety risks.
